Finance Director
United Way of Bucks County is seeking a Finance Director who combines financial expertise with a passion for community impact. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of the organization’s financial operations while helping to steward our resources in service of our mission.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting, managing risk and compliance, supporting budget development, and providing strategic insight to the CEO and Board. The Finance Director supervises one direct report (Finance Assistant & Bookkeeper) and serves as the primary point of contact for financial matters.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Oversight
Maintain reliable and accurate accounting systems and internal controls
Oversee daily transactions including cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, pledge processing, and reconciliations
Prepare timely internal reports, including financial statements, budget variance analysis, and cash flow projections
Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with leadership and the Board; compile and finalize the organization-wide budget
Serve as liaison to auditors and tax professionals; prepare documentation for annual audit and Form 990
Monitor investment performance in collaboration with the Finance Committee and advisors
Support grant budgeting and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
Serve as staff lead at monthly Finance Committee meetings
Risk Management & Compliance
Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, IRS, and United Way Worldwide standards
Evaluate organizational risk and maintain appropriate insurance coverage (D&O, liability, property, etc.)
Maintain policies and safeguards to protect assets and ensure operational continuity
Human Resources & Payroll (Limited Scope)
Maintain employee personnel files and ensure compliance with employment requirements
Oversee biweekly payroll processing and coordinate all benefits-related financial processes with external vendors
Support the CEO in evaluating and maintaining competitive benefit options
Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise and support the Finance Assistant & Bookkeeper
Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure alignment and transparency in financial matters
Provide financial insight to the CEO and Finance Committee to support strategic decision-making
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s preferred
CPA preferred but not required
Minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting or finance, with increasing responsibility
Experience with nonprofit accounting and grant management strongly preferred
Proficient in Excel and financial software and familiarity with CRM systems and their integration with accounting software; experience with Abila MIP is preferred
Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial colleagues
High integrity, sound judgment, and a collaborative, mission-driven approach

Compensation & Benefits
Salary commensurate with experience, but expected to be in the $86 - $96K range
